Real Madrid, the number one football club in Spain stands poised to take on DC United at the FedEx Field on Saturday, August 8^th. This friendly is the second of the two that Real Madrid is scheduled to play in North America. DC United has their own record behind them, being the most successful club in American Soccer with two U.S. Open Cups and has the record for the most MLS Cups as well as MLS Supporter Shields. DC United however could be doing better this year, with only 28 points from 20 games, and holding 3^rd place in the Eastern Conference. August saw them lose their first league game to Houston Dynamo, but they came back and beat El Salvadoran in the CONCACAF Champions League. It was decided on Penalties with scores from Chris Pontious, Ben Olson and Danny Szetela as well as Marc Burch, making the final on that 4-2, allowing DC United to move on to the Group Stages.

Real Madrid played DC United in 2006 at Qwest Field, and that time the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The goal for DC was courtesy of Alecko Ezkandarian while it was Antonio Cassano who tied it up for Real Madrid. However, there have been some big changes for Real Madrid over the summer, with additions of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso, all of which will be playing in the game on Saturday. DC will be hoping for a better result then the 2006 game, or at the very least a repeat.
