England were poor at the World Cup and somehow managed to progress from a group that also consisted of Algeria, Slovenia and the United States. However a youthful German outfit proved to be too strong for the Three Lions in the second round. England were outclassed in all departments of the game by Germany and lost the game 4-1.

Boss Fabio Capello has rung in the changes for this friendly, with thirteen players who had boarded the flight to South Africa left out of this fixture. Capello has given Arsenal youngsters Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs their first senior call ups. He has also included Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Fulham’s Bobby Zamora in the squad. Sunderland striker Darren Bent has however pulled out after sustaining a back injury.

Three Hungarian players ply their trade in England. Goalkeeper Martin Fulop and striker Tamas Priskin both play for Ipswich Town, while skipper Zoltan Gera plays his club football for last season’s Europa League runners up Fulham.
