Although thus far unbeaten in the group, they only have three wins from their seven games. The mood at next Tuesday’s match will depend on the result the team has against Cyprus on Saturday. It’s worth noting though, that the Republic’s last visit to Cyprus ended in a 5-2 humiliation.
South Africa for their part, have to make do with friendlies in their preparation for the World Cup in 2010, which they will be hosting. Their last game was a 3-1 home defeat to Serbia in August and prior to that they took part in this summer’s Confederations Cup where they managed to get to the semi final stage, losing the chance to play in the final when they lost to Brazil.
