Lyon will try and defend their Peace Cup title from last year this weekend and it all starts with a game against Besktas live on Saturday July 25^th. The game will take place in glorious Estadio Colombino and is an excellent way to get the event started. Lyon has not been placed in a very friendly group this year as they will have to battle it out with Besiktas and Porto in the same group. Many fans have coined the match up the “group of death” as it will be a battle to the end for any team to make it out alive. Lyon of course are the defending champions after they squeaked by the Bolton Wanderers in last year’s final by a score of 1-0.

This year the team that Lyon will be putting on the field will look a lot different. They lost Karim Benzema to Real Madrid but have done a good job in replacing that lost talent. They have brought in a number of players in hopes of capturing the Ligue 1 title such as Michel Fernandes Bastos, Aly Cissokho and Lisandro Lopez.

Besiktas were not initially invited to the tournament for this live Peace Cup but were called upon to replace Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce had to concede their spot in the tournament due to some commitments that were made to the Champions League. This will be the perfect opportunity for Besiktas to fine tune their play before heading into their new season.

All eyes will be on Nihat Kahveci and Matteo Ferrari who have been brought in to bolster the team’s depth and give them some added ability. These players already added to a roster that includes Tomas Sivok, Fabian Ernst and Matias Delgado means that Besiktas might just be able to sneak in and capture the Peace Cup title.
