City claimed only their second victory on their pre-season tour of North America when they beat Club America in Atlanta on Wednesday night. The Eastlands outfit prevailed 4-1 on penalties after the game had ended 1-1 in normal time.

City dominated the first half and took the lead through Emmanuel Adebayor’s penalty after winger Adam Johnson had been fouled by Aquivaldo Mosquera. Club America equalised minutes after the interval through Enrique Esqueda, with City defender Joleon Lescott caught out of position as he failed to read a long ball.

The game went to penalties where Adebayor, Jo, Vladimir Weiss and Patrick Vieira scored for the English outfit. City keeper Shay Given saved two vital penalty kicks as America could only convert one of their spot kicks- through Pavel Pardo.
