Portugal will welcome Finland to the Estadio Municipal De Aveiro on Tuesday March 29th for an international friendly fixture. The game will be the third since Finland were on a string of three defeats but if the talent on paper is anything to go by Portugal will beat the visitors comfortably. The Portuguese team suffered a defeat in their last game but that was to a very talented Argentinean team. See which team is happier after ninety minutes with live streaming from oleolefootball.watchlive.net.
The home side will have played Chile on the Saturday before the meeting with Finland which will have allowed manager Paulo Bento to try out a different combination in the centre of the park. With players like Ricardo Carvalho and Bruno Alves at the back the Portugal team are always looking to push up the pitch and the midfield duo of Raul Meireles and Ricardo Queresma have shown that they are a major threat from the middle. Nani and Carlos Martins are expected to play on the wings and Hugo Almeida and Helder Postiga will take it in turn to lead the line as lone strikers.
Finland have a decidedly less recognisable team but they have been able to grind out results in some big meetings in recent years. Jari Litmanen at forty years old has stunned the football world by still making an international squad but the striker who played some good football in his career will be keen to get on the pitch ahead of the other two strike options in thirty year old Venalainen and Forsell. See if the veterans can teach the Portuguese anything with live streaming from oleolefootball.watchlive.net.
Portugal will look to victory over Finland for a much needed morale boost as the two sides meet at the Estadio Algarve at 20:45 GMT on Wednesday 11th February 2009, which is live here at oleolefootball.watchlive.netwith direct football streams to your computer.
Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz has not had the best of starts in his time for Portugal with just 2 wins in 6 games since he took over from Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2008 after leaving his position as Assistant Manager at Manchester United. The side come into the friendly on the back of a humiliating 6-2 drumming from Brazil in an international friendly at the end of last year. Queiroz’s men were also held to a disappointing 0-0 draw against Albania in Group One of the FIFA World Cup European Qualifying tables. The pre-group favourites now sit 3rd in the table, 2 points behind Denmark and Hungary with Denmark having a game in hand on the Portuguese.
Queiroz has called up three debutants to his squad for the upcoming friendly as Portugal prepare for the crucial qualification tie against Sweden in March. Siena’s Goncalo Brandao, Malaga’s Eliseu and Braga’s Orlando Sa are all drafted into the squad and could make their full debut as Quieroz is expected to make big changes from the side that started in Brazil last November.
Finland also come into the game on the back of a thrashing, with a 5-1 defeat up against Japan, though manager Stuart Baxter fielded a mostly inexperienced side and has recalled a stronger side for the upcoming friendly. Finland sit 4th in Group Four of the FIFA World Cup European qualifying tables, 2 points behind Wales who they face at the end of March.
