Spain v England Live

The tie has been switched from the usual venue of Madrid to Seville after racial abuse towards some of England’s players marred the friendly back in 2004. The last time these two sides met was back in February 2007, where Andres Iniesta fired Spain to a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Spain are currently unbeaten in 28 games and have not lost since the end of 2006, which has propelled the Euro 2008 champions into first place on the FIFA World Rankings. Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has called up Barcelona youngster Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets to the squad where the duo could both make their full international debuts. The only exclusion from the Euro 2008 squad is the injured Cesc Fabregas whilst Barcelona have 5 players in the squad, the most the La Liga league leaders have had since 1999.

England manager Fabio Capello handed a surprise call up to in-form West Ham striker Carlton Cole, who is yet to make his full international debut at the age of 25 as well as Aston Villa’s James Milner, but the main focus has been on the inclusion of on-loan AC Milan star David Beckham. Beckham has made an immediate impact at the San Siro, earning a recall to the squad where he is set to equal Bobby Moore’s record of 108 caps.

Interestingly enough 6 Aston Villa players are included in Capello’s squad, whilst no Liverpool players make it into the England squad yet 5 of them will play for Spain.
