The hosts went down 5-3 to AEK in their opening game.  Sydney showed great spirit to come back from a goal down twice in the game, but AEK’s three goal burst in the second half left the hosts dazed and they could only manage to pull one back towards the end.

Sydney’s first goal came from the penalty spot through Alex Brosque after AEK skipper Kafes had handled the ball in his own area. It was Brosque who also scored Sydney’s second of the game. The Sky Blues also netted a late consolation through Senegalese trialist Ibrahima Thiam, who headed in Scott Jamieson’s cross.

Rangers emerged narrow 2-1 winners over Blackburn Rovers. With Sydney technically seen as the weakest side among the four times, Walter Smith’s men will aim to take as many points as they can from this fixture. While a win carries three points, every goal is also worth a point.
