The Americans rested a host of important players, including Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan against the Czechs. The USA took the lead through Maurice Edu but strikes on either side of the interval from Tomas Sivok and Jan Polak put the Czechs 2-1 ahead. Herculez Gomez did his chances of going to South Africa no harm by grabbing an equaliser, but late goals from Martin Fenin and Tomas Necid gave the Czechs a 4-2 win.

Turkey beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in a friendly earlier this month. Goals from Arda Turan and Nihat Kahveci gave the Guus Hiddink coached side a 2-1 win at the Red Bull Arena in New York. Turkey’s last international game was against Northern Ireland.
