The news this year has not been good for Arsenal in many ways and they will definitely be fighting an uphill battle after the loss of star players to the competition. Both Kolo Toure and Emmaneul Adebayor left the team for greener pastures and more money in Manchester City. Aside from the loss of those two there are also a number of injury concerns facing the team and the most important is the loss of Tomas Rosicky for at least 6 weeks. He has been unable to recover from the injury that caused Rosicky to miss all of last season.
There is some good news for the Gunners though as they were able to hold onto Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott and Robin Van Perise who will all be relied upon to try and get Arsenal some silverware this year. Rumors have also been swirling around the possible arrival of Patrick Viera from Inter Milan. Such a move could make a huge impact for the team and get the fans excited about their chances.
Unlike Arsenal, Valencia somehow managed to hold onto a number of their top players, even though Manchester United and other teams came knocking. Man U made a strong play for both David Villa and Davis Silva but the club stuck to their guns to see if they can make an impact this year.
Be sure to tune into Arsenal v Valencia live on Saturday August 8th right here on OleOleFootball. Can Arsenal prove they still have what it takes to compete? Or will Valencia prove that holding onto their stars has made them a true contender this year.
