The tie is set to provide a warm-up game for either sides as they prepare for crucial World Cup qualification ties late in March, with both teams travelling to Portugal where Poland have a warm weather training camp in Vila Real.

Wales’s manager John Toshack has handed a shock call up to Stockport keeper Owain Fon Williams who could make his debut in the upcoming friendly against Poland, after featuring for the Welsh under-21 squad last year. Toshack has taken a 27-man squad with him to Portugal, an unusually large squad to take although the time in Portugal will be used as preparation for next month’s qualifier against Finland and Germany.

Wales currently sit 3rd in Group 4 of the World Cup European qualification tables, level on points with second placed Russia. Elsewhere, manager John Toshack has signed a two-year extension to his contract with the Welsh national squad, which will see the former Liverpool striker in contract with the side until Euro 2012.

Poland will look to use the game as an ideal warm-up as they see the Welsh side as a similar opposition to upcoming World Cup group opponents Northern Ireland. Poland currently sit 2nd in Group 3 of the World Cup European qualification tables, with ties against San Marino and Northern Ireland at the end of March/ start of April.
