Wolfsburg were last seen in action against Italian outfit Napoli. Steve McClaren’s men lost that game 2-1 to the Partenopei in Italy. Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko scored Wolfsburg’s only goal of the game- a penalty sandwiched between strikes from Andrea Dossena and Marek Hamsik. Dzeko, who was captain for the night, also earned the penalty that he converted.

Everton’s last away friendly was against Norwich City. The Toffees beat the Canaries 4-2 to keep their 100% record in away friendlies this season. Australian midfielder Tim Cahill scored a hat trick, with the other goal coming from the boots of Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.

Wolfsburg boss McClaren is no stranger to facing Everton. He was assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United between 1999 and 2001, and also managed Middlesbrough between 2001 and 2006. Surprisingly enough, both Everton and Wolfsburg finished eighth in their respective leagues last season.
