Inter were imperious in the way they brushed aside the challenge of AC Milan on Sunday. Goals from Diego Milito and Goran Pandev gave the Nerazzurri a 2-0 win. Jose Mourinho’s side ended the game with nine men after Wesley Sneijder and Lucio got their marching orders for the referee.

The result prompted Inter boss Jose Mourinho to taunt his Milan counterpart Leonardo by saying that Inter could have won even with only seven players on the pitch. Inter beat Livorno 1-0 in the previous round of the Italian Cup.

Juve’s season went from bad to worse when they were beaten 2-1 by AS Roma on Saturday. It was the Bianconeri’s fifth loss in six Serie A games and left them a whopping 16 points behind leaders Inter. Juventus took the lead through Alessandro Del Piero, but were undone by second half strikes from Francesco Totti and John Arne Riise.

Under fire Juve coach Ciro Ferrara is also having to contend with a growing injury list. Midfielder Claudio Marchisio has joined Christian Poulsen, David Trezeguet, Vincenzo Iaquinta and Mauro Camoranesi in the treatment room. Del Piero, Amauri, Diego and Paolo De Ceglie are all doubts for the Inter clash, leaving Ferrara with a serious headache ahead of the trip to Milan.
