With a first league win of the season in the game before last weekend's encounter away to Ossasuna, Atletico fans were hoping that their season was about to take a turn for the better. Unfortunately for them though, the team went back to their bad old ways with a comprehensive defeat. This Saturday coming they host high flying Mallorca in what is turning into a must-win game. Having beaten Real Zaragoza in their last home game, Atletico travelled to Ossasuna with renewed optimism for a better run in La Liga which would help lead them out of trouble at the bottom of the table. Unfortunately though, they seemed to have lapsed back into their bad old ways and left Ossasuna with their tails firmly between their legs and a 3-0 defeat in their pockets.

A consequence of this result meant that Atletico remain in the nether regions of the La Liga table; languishing in fifteenth position with only six points to their name. They still have only one win all season, but three draws has kept a semblance of respectability to proceedings. Before Saturday’s match against the islanders, Atletico travel to London on Wednesday evening for a difficult Champions league match against Chelsea.

For their part, Mallorca go into the match in Madrid on the back of a 3-1 home win against Getafe and now find themselves fifth in the league table with thirteen points. Although they have won all four home games so far this season, they have yet to win away in the league and have just one draw and two defeats.
