Atletico Madrid v Numancia Live

Atletico Madrid managed to keep up the fight for a Champions League place next season by defeating Deportivo La Coruna last weekend. This Saturday the play at home to lowly Numancia and will be looking for another three points which would help them claw ever nearer to their ultimate goal. Atletico travelled to La Coruna last weekend for a very difficult tie away to local side Deportivo. In a hard fought game they managed to come away with a 2-1 win and because of this still remain in the hunt for that coveted fourth spot that will lead to Champions League riches next season.

Atletico opened the scoring in the 45^th minute and added a second in the 70^th through Simao. They endured a very nervy last few minutes when Deportivo managed to pull one back in the 87^th minute, but they held out well for the three points. The team are in sixth position in La Liga with 46 points, the same as Malaga but with a better goal difference. Fifth placed Villarreal have 48 points whereas fourth placed Valencia have 49. With eight games left in this seasons La Liga anything can happen in the race for fourth position.

Lowly Numancia come into the match in second last (19^th) position with 28 points, and currently five away from safety. Last weekend they drew 0-0 at home to Espanyol and that was actually their third game in succession without defeat (two draws and one win). Their away form generally though has been atrocious this season with one win, one draw and thirteen defeats in their fifteen games.
