When Real hosted Deportivo La Coruna in the first round of games in the new La Liga season at the Bernabeau just before the international break, many predicted a big result on top of a great performance. For their part, Espanyol suffered a 1-0 away defeat at the hands of last season’s cup finalists Athletic Bilbao in a bad tempered match that saw eight players booked; six from Espanyol themselves. Although the task that lies ahead against Real Madrid is an extremely difficult one, they know they have to try and get something from the match in order to banish the demons of the first game.
