Hercules last played against Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly in August 2010. Los Herculanos lost that game 3-1 despite taking a 1-0 lead at half time thanks to a goal from veteran midfielder Sandoa.

Real equalised after the interval through French striker Karim Benzema after some good work from Pedro Leon and Sami Khedira. Argentine winger Angel Di Maria then put Los Merengues ahead fifteen minutes from time with a brilliant solo effort and the game was put beyond the reach of the hosts six minutes later when Benzema collected a pass from Esteban Granero and scored.

Real Madrid are yet to lose on the road this season in the league while Hercules’ home record currently reads one win, one loss and two draws in four La Liga games. This is the first competitive fixture between the two sides since February 1997.
