Racing Santander v Barcelona Live
League leaders Barcelona travel to the El Sardinero to face Racing Santander this weekend in the La Liga, which is live online here at oleolefootball.watchlive.net at 16:00 GMT on Sunday 1st January 2009 with the La Liga live online.
Racing Santander have surprised everyone yet again as they sit 9th in the La Liga with an outside chance of making the European qualification places again. Last year Santander finished 6th to qualify for the UEFA Cup for the first time in the clubs history, where they reached the group stages but failed to progress in a tough Group A with the likes of Man City, PSG and Schalke 04 in their group.
Santander shocked third-placed Sevilla with a 2-0 away win last weekend, despite having 10 men for most of the game. Cesar Navas opened the scoring before Oscar Serrano was given his marching orders with a straight red card. A Frederic Kanoute own-goal doubled the visitors lead and Santander managed to hold on for a valuable victory.
Barcelona lead the way in the La Liga so far with a massive 12 point lead over second-placed Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have not lost since the opening day of the season and are certain favorites for the La Liga title with 53 points out of a possible 60, scoring on average over 3 goals a game whilst letting in just 1.
The Catalan side comes into the game on the back of a 4-1 thrashing of struggling side Numancia thanks to a brace from Lionel Messi and goals from Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto’o. Elsewhere, Messi has reiterated his desire to stay at the club, telling press he hopes to retire at the club and is not interested in a move to the likes of Chelsea or Inter Milan.
