Real Madrid and their fans suffered the ultimate defeat last weekend when they lost to bitter rivals Barcelona at the Nou Camp. The team played well enough, and indeed missed some very good chances to open the score in the first half of the encounter. Half time found both teams still deadlocked at 0-0 but when Barcelona coach Pepe Gardiola decided to substitute under-fire French star Thierry Henry with Ibrahimovic, it proved to be a master stroke. The Swede hadn’t been on the pitch for five minutes when he hit a sublime volley from a Danni Alves cross superbly into the back of the net.
With Barca 1-0 up and looking to safely cruise the rest of the match, they had Busquets sent off in the 62nd minute for a second yellow card offence. Instead of firing up Real though, it seemed to have the opposite effect with Barca pushing more for the second goal. The score remained the same until the referee sounded the final whistle and Real found themselves back down to second place in the league.
Almeria go into the match on Sunday at the Bernabeau on the back of a 4-1 home defeat to Athletic Bilbao. Because of this they dropped to thirteenth in the league with twelve points. They have only won twice in their last nine league games.

Real Madrid have been playing better of late but continue to sit in 2nd place of the La Liga log. After 27 matches the side managed by Juande Ramos have 60 points which are the product of 19 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses with 63 goals scored and 31 conceded. Los merengues sit 6 points behind first place Barcelona and 9 ahead of 3rd place Sevilla. Last week Madrid picked up 3 points away from home when they blew out Athletic Bilbao by a score of 2-5 at San Mames. However, it was a mixed week for Real as they were slaughtered away to Liverpool by a score of 4-0 in the Champions League just days prior.
The visiting Almeria have had a tough week as well. First the lost at home to 1st place Barca, and now they visit 2nd place Madrid. The side managed by former Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez are in 12th place of the La Liga table with 31 points, 2 back of 11th place Sporting. With Madrid no longer in Europe, all they have to play for is the league and they will be looking to take advantage of the fact that Barca are still battling on a number of fronts and a victory at home to Almeria is a must.
