Sevilla will try and make it three wins in a row and they could capitalise on the turbulent relations that exist in the Real Madrid camp. With Jose Mourinho seeming to upset players and fans alike there may be an opportunity for Sevilla to gain a famous victory if the visiting Madrid team are in disarray from their meeting with Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek.

Real Madrid have enjoyed the perfect start to the new La Liga campaign, and their attempts at wrestling the title from bitter rival’s Barcelona couldn’t have begun better. They have recorded five victories in their first five league games of the season, and Ronaldo, Benzema, Kaka, Alonso and pals will be looking to make it six out of six come Sunday evening.

Last weekend Real hosted Tenerife at the Bernabeau and dispatched the islanders clinically and without fuss, finishing the game with a good 3-0 score line. All the goals came in the second half of the contest as Tenerife’s brave rearguard crumbled, and new boys Benzema (two) and Kaka scoring the decisive goals. Real Madrid now lead La Liga with fifteen points from their five games, the same as Barcelona but leading them virtue of one goal less conceded.

The game on Sunday is without doubt their sternest test of the season so far, and with Champions League games being played in midweek as well, they will be hoping all personnel get through safely and are able to travel to Seville. Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy will definitely be missing from the squad through injury, and there are doubts over Alvaro Arbeloa and Christoph Metzelder. Xabi Alonso should be fit to play.

Sevilla currently sit third in the league with twelve points, these coming from four wins and one defeat. Last weekend they beat Athletic Bilbao away with an impressive 4-0 score. Real entertained Getafe at the Bernabeau on Tuesday evening, and to say they pulled the game out of the fire is an understatement of massive proportions. When Albin scored for the visitors in the 84th minute to make it 2-1 to them, Real’s brave bid to keep pace with their Catalan rivals Barcelona at the top of the table looked destined to finish for this season. Just two minutes later though Guti slotted in the equaliser and suddenly the old adage “hope springs eternal” came into play and the Real fans could sense blood. Although a minute after the equaliser Real had Pepe sent off, that didn’t stop them pushing forward and with the clock ticking past the 93rd minute, Higuain scored the winning goal that sent the home fans into ecstasy. What effect this result will have on the title race is largely up to Barcelona and if they drop any points in the run-in, but it could be huge.

The Real players will take great heart in the manner of their victory on Tuesday evening and will travel to Seville determined to carry on where they left off against Getafe, therefore keeping what pressure they can on Barcelona.

For their part, Sevilla face Barcelona away on Wednesday evening (this was written beforehand), but last weekend they lost away to Valencia by 3-1. Although third place still looks assured for them, they have to start winning again because defeat to Barca and Wednesday followed by defeat to Real on Sunday would really through things into doubt for them.
