Jose Mourinho played a tight game against Barcelona in order to make sure that they weren’t humiliated again but against Valencia fans can expect a more expansive affair. With Raul Albiol sent off in their last game the Real Madrid back four may need reshuffling so there will be no jeering of the defender who left Valencia to go to Madrid. The two teams Valencia and Real Madrid have a history of playing tough games against each other but Madrid are the clear favourites with 21 wins to Valencia’s 10 and just six draws have resulted from the 37 meetings between the teams.

It was back in May 2009 that Valencia mast beat Madrid and that was a three goal to nil thrashing. The Valencia team though have only scored in one game since against Real Madrid and that was a five goal result with Madrid edging it at 3-2. On the last two occasions, Madrid have taken the points with 2-0 the score. See how they do with this Saturday in the Mestalla with live streams from oleolefootball.watchlive.net.

Real Madrid’s season was effectively destroyed in one of the most remarkable El Clasico derby’s ever to have taken place. Barcelona destroyed them, winning 6-2 in the Bernabeau and in doing so virtually guaranteeing themselves the La Liga crown. Real Madrid were woeful in what was their first defeat since Juan Ramos’ first game in charge at Barcelona all those months ago. With just four league games left to play, Barcelona’s seven point lead at the top of the table almost guarantees them the title. This weekend Real Madrid have to pick themselves up, dust themselves down, and travel to Valencia for another seemingly difficult game. To say last weekend results was one of the worst in the clubs history may be an understatement – the worst would probably be more closer to the truth. This was the first time in the history of the El Clasico match that Barcelona have knocked six in at their fiercest rivals own stadium. The defeat, quite apart from ending all interest in this season’s league campaign for Real, will be a devastating kick in the teeth for the Madrid fans. The fans even enjoyed a dream start when their local heroes took the lead, but that only lasted for four minutes and three goals in little over fifteen minute had Barca cruising at half time. Although this was bad enough, the fans couldn’t have believed even in their worst nightmares what was going to happen in the second half. It followed exactly the same pattern as the first; Real scoring a goal, then Barca following up with three.

Last weekend Real Madrid entertained Almeria at the Bernabeau in what was to turn out to be an intriguing encounter. Real managed to take the lead in the game on 32 minutes when Sergio Ramos found the back of the net. Half time came with Madrid one up but the second half was not to be the stroll in the park they anticipated. Almeria came out with all guns blazing and managed to equalise in the 58th minute with Soriano. Worse was to come for the aristocrats from the capital when four minutes later Uche gave the visitors a shock lead.

Real had to wait until the 73rd minute for an equaliser to come, and Higuain obliged. From then on in it was all Real and in the 83rd minute Benzema scored and two minutes later Cristiano Ronaldo also found the back of the net. The match finished 4-2 to Real meaning they remain five behind Barcelona, but toward the end of the game Real player Ronaldo was sent off with a second yellow card.

Valencia are flying high themselves and are currently third with 28 points. Last weekend they beat Athletic Bilbao away by 2-1. At home Valencia have two wins, four draws and no defeats.

Real Madrid have maintained the squad that won them La liga by a comfortable margin last year while adding the likes of Garay and Rafael Van Der Vaart. The addition of these upcoming talents to an already established side bodes good for a Madrid outfit that has well and truly recovered from the dark times of the Gallacticos era. Real Madrid lost their last Supercup encounter against Sevilla losing both the games home and away and a good result away from home will hold the key to victory this time around. Real will have Robinho for this clash despite his complaints over a new contract and given their form this year, it will take a brave man indeed to pit against them losing out to Valencia at the Mestella.

Valencia will be hoping to recover from one of the worst seasons in the history of the club. The 2004 La Liga championships were outplayed by even minor teams and their 5-1 loss to Real Madrid will be something that they will be hoping to avenge for at the Mestella. Valencia’s biggest plus point this summer was in maintaining a good squad without much disharmony and in keeping the likes of David Villa and David Silva, the club has ensured that they can look forward to brighter times ahead. A victory for the beleaguered giants of Spanish football will help them get back on track ahead of a tough season and the Mestella will be ready for a strong rearguard action against the reigning champions of Spain.
