Atletico Madrid recorded only their second win of the season when they crushed Espanyol by four goals to nil last Sunday. Atletico Madrid delivered the best possible result to their beleaguered fans last weekend when they crushed hapless Espanyol by 4-0. The result was as unexpected as were the three points gained, but was delivered in emphatic fashion in front of the home fans. The result helped move them out of the relegation zone, up one place in fact, to seventeenth with ten points. The four goals also helped their goal difference immensely and overall both the players and the management will be happy with the way things went.

Now they have to carry on where they left off by despatching basement side Xerez on their own patch next Sunday. Although seemingly straightforward for Atletico, their fans know that the team have been akin to Jekyll and Hyde this season.

As mentioned above, Xerez are in last position (notwithstanding their midweek game against Barcelona) and have seven points to their name. Last weekend they were crushed 5-1 away to Getafe and the team have now only scored four times all season.
