When Lyon lost last season’s championship to Bordeaux, it was the first time in seven years that the fans, players and management hadn’t tasted the sweet nectar of success in that time. As such, this season they have made it their mission to wrestle the league title back from their rivals and so far they have started the new season well. Last weekend they entertained Toulouse at home and despite falling behind to an eighth minute goal, managed to fight their way back into the game and come away with a deserved 2-1 victory. Goals from Tafer in the 52^st minute and Gomis in the 71^st were enough for Lyon to cancel out the visitors 8^th minute opener.

Lyon remain unbeaten in their first seven games of the season, and with five wins and two draws they find themselves in second position with seventeen points, just two behind champions and current leaders Bordeaux. For Saturday’s game against Lens there is a question mark over the fitness of Argentine player Lisandro Lopez.

For their part, Lens come into the game on the back of a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Le Mans and as a consequence have fallen to thirteenth in the Ligue One table with eight points to their name. They have two wins, two draws and three defeats in their seven games, and they are unbeaten at home with one win and two draws.
