This past Sunday Lyon entertained league leaders and current champions Bordeaux. Unfortunately for them and their supporters they succumbed to an 86^th minute Chamakh goal and lost the match and with it, in all probability, the chance to reclaim the Ligue 1 title. In terms of league position, the defeat was devastating. The team have dropped to ninth in the table although their 26 points is only two points behind third placed Lille. They have though, fallen eight points behind Bordeaux in the standings and that gap may prove to be a little difficult to overcome in the coming months.

This awful run of form certainly explains their rapid drop in the league standings and for a team that had aspirations of reclaiming their title from Bordeaux this just isn’t good enough, as the management and players well know. They have to start winning again soon, and the match on Wednesday evening will give them a great opportunity to gain the three available points.

Boulogne are sitting second last in the table and have twelve points to their name. Last time out they lost 2-0 away to Marseille. They have only won once in their last thirteen league games.
