Lyon dropped more points in their quest of regaining their league crown lost to Bordeaux last season when they drew 1-1 at Monaco. At the same time Bordeaux were winning and have now stretched their lead over Lyon to ten points. Lyon played two games within the last week. Last Wednesday they faced lowly Boulogne at home and despatched the league’s second last team with a 2-0 score line. The goals for Lyon on the evening were scored by Pjanic on 71 minutes and Delgado a minute from time. Bordeaux also won that evening, 1-0 away to Montpellier.

On Sunday Lyon knew they had a difficult task when they travelled to Monaco. In the end they had to settle for a 1-1 draw and subsequently a share of the points, which ultimately was not good enough seeing as Bordeaux won their weekend game. Although Lyon opened the scoring with a strike from Michel Bastos, Monaco equalised a short time later. Consequently Lyon remain fourth in the Ligue 1 table with 30 points.

For their part, Montpellier come into the game at Lyon on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Nancy. The result meant that they were overtaken in the league table by both Lille and Lyon and now find themselves in fifth position with thirty points, trailing Lyon on goal difference.
