Marseille v Lyon Live

Lyon have all but kissed their title goodbye after the disastrous few week's they have endured. Last weekend they lost 2-0 away to Valenciennes and although they redeemed themselves somewhat with a midweek home victory over Nantes with a 3-0 score line, it will probably be a case of too little, too late. On Sunday the team travel to table-toppers Marseille and will have to win to keep any hop of the title, however small that may be, alive. Before the midweek win against Nantes, Lyon had only won two league games from nine, and this is what has effectively killed off their title challenge for this season. Although probably good for French football as a whole, the Lyon fans will be devastated that the team will not win the title for the eighth successive season. The form over the last couple of months has not been form of champions and they should count their blessings that the accrued a good amount of points beforehand or they could possibly be looking at adventures at the wrong end of the table!

They know they face a tough task at Marseille on Sunday, irrespective of Marseille’s score from the Wednesday evening game away to Nice. Even if they do manage to win on Sunday, they have to hope other results go their way to even give them a sniff of the title, but even so, it is very unlikely.
