In their last game before the Christmas break, Lyon entertained Montpellier at home and much to the dismay of the home fans lost the game by two goals to one. Lyon now have only won once in their last eight league games, and this terrible run of form has seen them drop to sixth in the league with thirty points to their name. At this moment in time that is a full thirteen points adrift of current league leaders and defending champions Bordeaux.

This current run of form is definitely not what anyone connected with the club envisaged at the beginning of the season and to be so far behind the leaders going into the New Year is as close to a disaster as they could possibly come. With all thoughts of regaining the league title firmly out of their minds, the priority for the players and management is to get the team moving up the table again and to be at least challenging for a European place next season.

For their part of proceedings, Nancy go into their home game against Lyon on the back of a 4-0 home drubbing from Lille last time out. They are twelfth in the Ligue 1 table and have 26 points to their name.
