After an undefeated eight game stretch from the beginning of this season’s Ligue 1which included six wins and two draws, Lyon suffered their second successive defeat at the weekend when they were trounced away to Nice 4-1. This Saturday coming they travel to St Etienne and will be hoping that Halloween produces more than the horror show they put up last weekend. After such a great start to the season when they set off in dogged pursuit of regaining their league crown, Lyon have now suffered two damaging defeats in succession. Following on from their shock 2-0 home defeat to Sochaux the previous weekend, they travelled to Nice last weekend and were hammered 4-1. They didn’t even get close to competing in the game and in fact didn’t score their goal until Nice were already 4-0 up.

The mini crisis is obviously going to set alarm bells off, especially with the Lyon support who have been far from impressed with the last couple of results, and the management will want to rectify matters sooner rather than later.

For their part, St. Etienne come into the game on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Valenciennes; a result that rather showed St. Etienne’s home form for what it is this season. They have only won two from six games, while drawing one and losing three. They sit a lowly sixteenth in the league table with ten points to their name and will be looking to Saturday’s game to bolster their position.
