Due to the results of the first two games of the group, where Malaga beat Aston Villa 1-0, and then Atlante beat Malaga 3-1, Aston Villa know that they have to win the match against Atlante by at least three goals to nil or better to be in with a chance of qualifying for the knock out stages of the tournament. Although a tall order, Villa manager Martin O’Neil feels his team do have the strength to overcome their Mexican opponents and secure the result that will ensure qualification.

With Villa still trying to fine tune their pre-season preparations though, they will be more interested in reaching their peak fitness levels through playing matches rather than worry about qualification in a friendly tournament of this calibre. That is not to say that they wouldn’t mind reaching the knock out stages, where they could face some really strong European opposition.

For their part, Atlante won their first game of the tournament when they rather surprisingly beat Malaga by the emphatic score line of 3-1, at the same time ending the Spanish team’s hope of qualifying through to the knock out games.

Atlante will feel that they are able to beat the English Premiership team and go through to the next round; especially after the emphatic win against their Spanish opposition in their previous game.
