For their part, Real Madrid faced Ecuadorian side LDU and won 4-2. All the goals came in the second half of the contest and Cristiano Ronaldo managed to open his account for the Galacticos with a 50^th minute penalty. Grenaro made it two on 53 minutes but Vera pulled one back for LDU in the 68^th minute. Just when the team from Ecuador were looking to cause an upset, Metzelder scored the decisive third for Real on 71 minutes. LDU did manage to pull a goal back two minutes from time, but Real cemented the victory with an injury time fourth from Negredo.
