Lyon of France and Portuguese team Porto play each other on Monday evening as part of the qualifying phase for the 2009 Peace Cup, which is taking place in Spain. They are in Group D and this group is the only group that contains all European teams (the other is Turkish side Besiktas). French side Lyon come into the game against Porto already having played one match; they were held to a 1-1 draw by Besiktas on Saturday evening. Although these games give the coaches of each team some much needed match practise during this pre-season period, this isn’t to say that the players are not taking the tournament seriously. Because of this, the Lyon players will desperately be trying to secure a win against Porto to give them a chance of qualification through to the knock out stages.

The match between Lyon and Besiktas took place in the Nuevo Colombino stadium in Huelva, and the crowd were treated to an entertaining game. Kim Kallstrom opened the scoring for the French side in the 69^th minute, only for Nobre to equalise for the Turks five minutes from time. Although Lyon had started favourites, the win wasn’t to be and both sides settled for the one point apiece.

Porto will be starting their first game in this year’s Peace Cup and will be looking to get off to the best possible start by securing the win and three points that go with it. The players are raring to go and after the intensive pre-season training just want to get some games under their belts.
