Malaga will be one of two Andalusian teams in the tournament along with Sevilla and hope to use their home field advantage to their benefit. They will be the home team for their game against Villa as well as their game against Atlante from Mexico.
Last year was a disappointing year for Malaga as they were only able to finish in 8th place in La Liga and they are hoping to get off to a much better start this year. They will be relying on new additions Patrick Mtiliga and Gustavo Munua to set them in their winning ways. However they did lose one of their stars, Eliseu who moved on to Serie A.
Last year Aston Villa was in contention for a place in the Champions League but fell just short and finished 6th overall in the Premier League. They also lost their captain, Gareth Barry, this year but think they have replaced his talent by signing Stewart Downing. However their defence still looks a little thin as they also lost Martin Laursen to retirement. This Peace Cup event should give football fans a good look at how Aston Villa will shape up for the coming season.
So far this pre-season Villa has played two friendlies. They won their first by a score of 3-0 against Peterborough and also had a draw against Colchester. In both games Steve Sidwell stroke the back of the net and would love to do the same against Malaga.
