Real Madrid face LDU Quito of Ecuador on Tuesday evening in their final Group B match for the 2009 Peace Cup which is being held in Spain. Real Madrid were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw in the Bernabeau in their first qualifying game for this tournament by Al Ittihad, the team from Saudi Arabia. While everybody was expecting a Madrid rout in the game, the Saudi’s had other ideas and refused to roll over for their more illustrious opponents. Despite a team full of new “galactico’s”, it is very obvious that it is going to take time for the players to gel and find any sort of rhythm, and it showed.

Despite taking a 55^th from serial goal getter Raul, the Saudi’s took to the front foot and equalised just ten minutes later when Aboucherouane out jumped the Real defenders to power in the header. The Saudi team could then scent a shock on the cared, but no more goals were scored and the game ended in a surprising 1-1 draw.

The upshot of this result means that LDU Quito can qualify for the knock out round of the tournament with just a point, and they way Madrid played against the Saudi team gives them some hope. The Ecuadorians won their first game against Al Ittihad by 3-1 and go into the game against Real full of hope.
