Since the Peace Cup began 6 years ago the tournament has been played in South Korea but this year marks a break from tradition. This year all the action will take place in Spain with Real Madrid looking to make an impact thanks to their recent major acquisitions. In the opening game of the event Sevilla will be taking on Juventus on Friday July 24th. Even though all eyes will be on Real Madrid this opening match should be a preview of what is in store for the rest of the tournament. You can watch all the Live Peace Cup 2009 games right in the comfort of your home thanks to OleOleFootball.
Sevilla will be matched up with Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma from Korean and Juventus in Group A action. Only one of the teams will be able to qualify for the semifinals and it should be a battle right to the very end. This also is likely to mean that the winner of this opening match will have a very good shot at moving onto the next round, while the loser will be left to struggle through the rest of the way.
Sevilla was only able to finish third in their league last year behind both Real Madrid and Barcelona and only made one change in the offseason by adding Didier Zokora. Juventus also finished third in their league but have spent a lot more money on acquiring players. The brought in Fabio Cannavaro, Diego and Felipe Melo in hopes of moving up this year.
Both teams will be desperate for a win as they know how important this match up will be for the rest of the tournament. It will give Juventus a good opportunity to get used to its new players and give Sevilla the opportunity to prove that they are ready to take the next step. Stick right here on OleOleFootball to see which team can come out on top on Friday July 24th.
