Three of the last four meetings between Everton and Arsenal have gone the way of the Gunners. Arsene Wenger’s side did the double over the Toffees last season, prevailing 2-1 in both league fixtures.

For Everton’s last win over Arsenal, one needs to turn the clock back to 2007, when Andrew Johnson struck a late winner to give David Moyes’ side a 1-0 win. Arsenal’s terrific run of league form will mean that they will be strong favourites going into this clash.

The Gunners thrashed Wigan 4-0 last weekend while Everton stumbled to a 1-0 loss on home soil to Tony Pulis’ Stoke City. Ten points separate the two teams at this point of time, but both sides are in the upper half of the table.

Arsenal will look to continue their recent good run against Everton when they clash against the Toffees on Saturday in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side will play host to David Moyes' Everton in the Premier League on February 1 2011. Both teams need to get the win here as Everton need to start aiming for the European spots and Arsenal need to win fixtures like these if they are to stand any chance of closing the gap on United at the top. Arsene Wenger's starting line-up will include their captain Cesc Fabregas who needs to find his best form again to stay in favour with the fans. Wenger was right when he said Robin Van Persie is getting back to his best and with a hat trick against Wigan in their last Premier League outing nobody could argue. When these two teams met at Goodison Park earlier in the season Arsenal won by two goals to one and based on current form that could be repeated on Tuesday.

David Moyes' men have been playing reasonably well lately with two draws and two wins in their last four games. The fact that Steven Pienaar has gone to Tottenham Hotspur has done little harm to the team’s spirit and it may have even spurred them a little. They have let two goals past them in each of the last two games which could be a very bad move against an Arsenal side that can punish teams. Moyes will have to make sure he addresses Everton’s defensive issues before they take to the pitch this week. The English Premier League resumes this coming weekend after the break for the third round of the FA Cup last weekend (although Arsenal do have a midweek game beforehand against Bolton at the Emirates Stadium – this is their game in hand). Come Saturday afternoon, Arsenal may very well be sitting in second place in the league table if they managed to beat Bolton in their game in hand at the Emirates on Wednesday evening. Arsene Wenger has been delighted at his team’s response after their home mauling to Chelsea at a few weeks ago. That result put the Gunners eleven points behind their rivals at that stage and the team were roundly written off when it came to talk of winning the league title.

Nevertheless, since then the team have won five games and drawn another in an unbeaten run of six league games which have taken them to within four points (one point if they win on Wednesday) from Chelsea at the top of the table. With a win on Wednesday with a further victory on Saturday, Arsenal will genuinely feel they have a chance of winning this season’s Premier League title.

For their part, David Moyes’ Everton side are struggling for form this season and find themselves in eleventh position in the league table with22 points from nineteen games played. Away from Goodison they have played nine games, winning two, drawing two and losing the other five.

The side managed by Arsene Wenger enter this week in 4th place of the Premiership with 13 points on the season. This leaves them 1 point back of 3rd place Hull City and just ahead of 5th place Aston Villa on goal difference. In their last match Arsenal managed to hold out for a draw on their visit to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in a match that ended 1-1.

Everton went through a very frustrating draw at home to Newcastle United in a contest that ended in a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. With the draw the Toffees are now in 15th place of the Premier League log with 8 points, just behind 14th place Sunderland and 1 point ahead of 16th place Bolton Wanderers. Now the side managed by David Moyes face a very tough test away to the always tough Arsenal.
