Wigan’s 1-0 win over Manchester United was the upset of the midweek clashes and threw open the title race again. Former Celtic star Shaun Maloney struck the decisive blow for the Latics early in the second half to give his side three precious points in their fight against relegation.

Arsenal saw off Wolves 3-0 in their last league fixture. Robin van Persie opened the scoring with a cheeky chipped penalty and also superbly set up Theo Walcott for the second minutes later. Yossi Benayoun scored the third in the second half to complete an easy win for the Gunners, who now seem to have a stronghold on third place.

Wigan were trounced 4-0 by Arsenal in the reverse fixture earlier this season at the DW, with Arteta, Vermaelen, Gervinho and Van Persie netting for Arsene Wenger’s side.

After upsetting Man Utd on Wednesday, Wigan will look to pick the big scalp of Arsenal when they take on the Gunners on Monday.

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side will play host to Roberto Martinez's Wigan Athletic in the Premier League on January 22 2011. Both teams need to get the win here as Wigan Athletic need to get out of the relegation zone and Arsenal need to win fixtures like these if they are to stand any chance of closing the gap on United at the top. Arsene Wenger's starting line-up will include their captain Cesc Fabregas who has been a little off the boil lately and talk of Barcelona arising once again is not doing anything to settle him. Wenger believes Robin Van Persie is getting back to his best and If that is right then the Gunners should be able to at least keep pace with the top of the table. When these two teams met at the Emirates stadium Arsenal won by two goals to nothing and based on current for, that could be repeated on Saturday.

Roberto Martinez's men have been struggling for points with just six from their last possible fifteen. In those five games there has been only one loss which is some consolation. Their defensive play is holding up quite well but they need to assert themselves more in the middle of the park which is something Arsenal are unlikely to allow. The good news is that N’Zogbia is now back from suspension after being sent off against Arsenal last when they played out a 2-2 draw in their Premier league meeting in the DW stadium.
