The Villans’ last victory over QPR came way back in 2004, when goals from Vassell, Angel and Solano gave the home side a 3-1 victory in the League Cup. Since then, the two sides have met twice, with QPR winning one game and the other ending in a draw.

The draw took place in September 2011, with Barry Bannan giving Villa the lead from the spot before a late Richard Dunne own goal proved to be the Midlands outfit’s undoing. Armand Traore was red carded for QPR in that fixture.

Only seven points separate the two sides in the league standings and Villa, who faced Arsenal in the FA Cup during the weekend, will be hopeful of widening that gap and strengthening their own position in the table.

Aston Villa’s first league test this month is a home fixture against newly promoted Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday.
