Aston Villa will welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Villa Park on Sunday 26 December 2010 for an English Premier League fixture that has lots of importance for managers of both teams. Gerard Houllier will be relieved that Villa took three points from West Brom last time they played but knows that the three losses in a row previous to that game has done lots of damage to the fabric of the team. Harry Redknapp expressed his intentions this week to make usher Spurs in to a period of success that they have never experienced and the Christmas period is the perfect time to start. Harry Redknapp received plenty of recognition lately for producing some good performances out of his squad. After qualifying easily for the champion’s league by finishing top in their group they have increased their profile in the Premier League too. Now that van de Vaart seems ready to play the new look Spurs are steadily becoming a force to be feared and that message could be hammered home by Gareth Bale, Defoe and Pavlyuchenko on Boxing Day.
Villa though may have just turned the corner and be they could put in the kind of performance that the fans and opposition have come to expect from them over the last few seasons. With the dust settling somewhat after the absurd shenanigans with Houllier, the players are vying to stay at the club rather than find themselves listed for transfer in January. Both Villa and Spurs are enjoying a great season so far and with both having British managers it is refreshing to see them battling in the upper echelons of the league table. Both teams, though, had rather conflicting fortunes in their last games this past weekend. Whereas Villa were lucky to scrape a point away to Burnley, Spurs absolutely annihilated Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane.
Home side Villa go into the match against Harry Redknapp’s Spurs team on the back of a 1-1 away draw at Burnley. In the grand scheme of things the result was a good one considering Burnley’s great home form so far this season, which included a win against champions Manchester United. Burnley actually took an early lead in the game and held it right to the 86th minute, when Emile Heskey rescued a point for martin O’Neill’s team.
Tottenham had no such issues in their last match. They thrashed a hapless Wigan Athletic side by 9-1! Yes, that is nine and not a typo! Jermaine Defoe helped himself to five of Spurs’ goals, with Crouch, Lennon, Kranjcar and an own goal from Wigan keeper Kirkland getting the others.
Both teams have played thirteen games, with Spurs in fourth position with 25 points and Villa in fifth with 22. Watch the Aston Villa vs. Tottenham Hotspur game right here at oleolefootball.watchlive.net – the only place to be to watch live streaming football from the English Premier League.
