Barcelona seem to have developed a bout of travel sickness of late as for the third away game in a row they could only draw. This time they were at Athletic Bilbao and could only manage a 1-1 score line. Despite taking the lead in the match with a 54^th minute Daniel effort, Bilbao found the strength to hit back and managed to equalise nine minutes later with a goal from Toquero Pinedo. Barca have now won just three of their last six league games and as a consequence have lost top spot to Real Madrid in the league standings. Currently Real lead the way with 28 points, Barcelona are second with 27, and refreshingly, Sevilla and Valencia sit close behind on 25 and 24 points respectively, adding a bit of spice to this season’s proceedings.

Real Madrid entertained Racing Santander last time out and managed to hold out for a 1-0 win against the fourth bottom club. Irrespective of the display though, it was enough to move Real back to the summit of La Liga, which in itself will give the El Clasico match some added spice.

Real still have a clutch of injuries to deal with, most notably Cristiano Ronaldo is still out. Keeping him company is Ruud van Nistelrooy, Guti, Sergio Ramos and Diarra. Despite this, the team from the capital will travel to Barcelona with renewed optimism after gaining top spot in the league.
