Birmingham will play host to Avraam Grant’s West Ham in the English Premier League this Saturday 6 November 2010. Alex McLeish will look to press home the home advantage and with only one loss in their last eight games at St. Andrews they will be confident. West Ham has only won one game on the road this season so far but they will look to rectify that statistic this weekend. If things go right for the visitors then it could see them rise from the bottom of the table but they are already three points adrift of nineteenth place.

Birmingham has not had the best of starts either and they find themselves in fifteenth place in the table. A win for them has the potential to take them in to the top half which would better reflect some of the performances they have been putting in. The manager is struggling for inspiration but thankfully Cameron Jerome is regaining fitness and is available as an option and Zigic is beginning to find the net with two goals from his last four games.

West Ham would gladly swap some of Birmingham’s problems for their own as keeper Robert Green is surely having his confidence knocked on a regular basis. Despite holding Arsenal to just one goal there will be a lot to do for the trip to Birmingham. Avraam Grant will most likely keep a fairly unchanged side for this game placing his confidence once more in Piquionne instead of Carlton Cole to lead the line. This is the sort of game that people will write off West Ham but they are very capable of getting three points from this fixture. Birmingham and West Ham enjoyed conflicting emotions in the games played this past weekend in the English Premier League. Whereas Birmingham managed to win away, West Ham were crushed at home, so while Birmingham City are sitting relatively comfortably in the Premier League table, West Ham are not faring as well and are deep in trouble toward the bottom of the table. Last time out Alex McLeish’s Birmingham City side travelled to Wigan Athletic. Despite falling behind in the score to a 33^rd minute N'Zogbia goal and finishing the first half one goal behind, City started the second half off really well and managed to equalise through Larsson in the 61st minute. Just five minutes later they were ahead when Benitez scored and when Larsson scored the third for Birmingham in the 72^nd minute, the game as a contest was effectively over, even though Wigan managed to pull a goal back in the 89^th minute.

West Ham, for their part, endured a torrid afternoon at home against the champions Manchester United. Despite holding out for 45 minutes, West Ham couldn’t go into half time at 0-0 as they conceded a 46^th minute goal from United veteran paul Scholes. This setback seemed to have a negative effect on the West Ham players because in the second half they conceded a further three goals with Gibson, Valencia and Rooney doing the damage.

As a result of the pairs games last weekend, Birmingham are now sitting in ninth position with 21 points, while the Hammers are hovering just above the relegation zone in seventeenth position with fourteen points.
