The Gunners were minutes close to opening their Champions League group campaign with a win but were denied at the death by Ivan Perisic’s superb volley. Arsenal, managed by gaffer Arsene Wenger’s assistant Pat Rice, had struggled to impose themselves on the game in the first forty minutes but nevertheless did manage to go ahead through Robin Van Persie before the interval.

Blackburn Rovers are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and have a return of a single point after four rounds of fixtures. They picked up that point against Fulham last weekend with Ruben Rochina the scorer for the Lancashire outfit.

Manager Steve Kean is facing the heat at Ewood Park, with the fans unhappy with the club’s performance under him. A poor performance against Arsenal will increase calls for his head.

Arsenal are definitely not left wanting with a hat trick coming from Theo Walcott against Blackpool. Tomas Rosicky was amazing in his last performance almost to the point of the fans forgetting that Cesc Fabregas still played for them. The talented young Spaniard is getting back to his old self though and Gunners fans have his presence in the midfield to look forward to. After playing around thirty minutes last weekend, Cesc could well start. Someone who also had the last half an hour last weekend was Robin Van Persie who has been out for a while. With these two Arsenal linchpins back in action things can only continue to improve for Arsene Wenger’s young team.

Blackburn will not be feeling too confident after losing a lead to Birmingham at St. Andrews last weekend. The team has been slow to find their form at the start of the season but some of their star players will have to pull their socks up if they are to hold a very strong looking Arsenal side. Pederson and Diouf have the ability to take it to the gunners as long as players like Salgado and Zigic can play their part at the back. Arsenal looked poised to climb to the top of the table a few weeks ago but things have not lived up to expectations. They remain third and eight points behind the leaders Chelsea. Still the team have guaranteed their entry into European football next season and that has to be something to feel good about. They played Manchester City last weekend but had to settle for just the point after both teams failed to find the back of the net.

Blackburn are eleventh in the EPL and would like to finish this season with a few more wins under their belt. A win against Arsenal would be well received by fans. They were up against Wolves last weekend but they too had to satisfy themselves with just one point; final score 1-1. Arsenal comes into this clash on the back of a stylish 3-0 victory against Newcastle last time around. The likes of Samir Nasri and Ramsey looked to have settled in at Arsenal and they now look to be a major contender for the title, a tag which looked dodgy after their performance against Fulham a couple of weeks ago. However, some players have to stand out for themselves and one such Gunner is striker Adebayor. The Togo striker who flirted with a move to either Barcelona or AC Milan find himself on the wrong end of the Arsenal faithful and he will do good to dispel those worries with a strong performance this time around against Blackburn away from home.

Blackburn has always been a dodgy outfit for Arsenal and Mark Hughes will be looking to keep it as tight as possible in the middle. Robbie Savage will be required to play a major part as Blackburn aim to shut the Gunner’s midfield of Fabregas and Nasri. While Blackburn may not have made it into the elite of the Premiership despite being the only side apart from Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea to win it, they possess one of the finest strike partnerships in Santa Cruz and South African centre forward McCarthy. A victory here for Blackburn would put them ahead of Arsenal and that is what they will aspire for this weekend at home against the mighty Gunners.
