After their shoddy performance at home against Arsenal last weekend, Chelsea coach Andre Villas-Boas will be demanding a strong reply from his side when they meet Blackburn on Saturday.
Chelsea shipped in five goals against Arsenal last weekend, with four of them coming in the second half. The back four had a terrible day as Arsenal tore them to shreds in the second half.
However things could have been different for the Blues had they scored more than the two they did at half time through Frank Lampard and John Terry. There were around half a dozen opportunities for them to score in the first half, but their movement in the final third of the pitch let them down.
Blackburn were left fuming after two late goals allowed Norwich City to claim a point from a game that Rovers were leading 3-1 with less than ten minutes left on the clock. It was a particularly difficult result to stomach for Blackburn boss Steve Kean, given that Grant Holt’s equalising penalty came in controversial circumstances.
Chelsea’s last assignment prior to the international break sees Andre Villas-Boas’ side take on Blackburn this weekend.

Blackburn suffered defeat at Anfield as they were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool last weekend. All three goals of that crucial fixture came in the opening minutes of the second half. Liverpool broke the deadlock through a header from defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos but Blackburn levelled when Jamie Carragher deflected Paul Konchesky’s clearance into his own net.
Liverpool however regained the lead when star forward Fernando Torres headed in Joe Cole’s cross three minutes later. Blackburn lacked penetrative abilities in the final third of the pitch and were unable to find a reply to Torres’ goal.
Chelsea beat a stubborn Wolves side 2-0 last weekend to open a five point gap at the top of the table. A goal in either half from Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou was enough to give the Blues their fifth straight home league win of the season.
