Liverpool got their first win under their new owners as they saw off Sam Allarydce’s Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Anfield. After a goalless first half, the Reds took the lead when Greek international Sotirios Kyrgiakos headed in a corner from skipper Steven Gerrard.

Blackburn equalised minutes later when Liverpool defender Paul Konchesky’s attempted clearance richochetted off team mate Jamie Carragher for an own goal. Reds striker Fernando Torres however settled the issue  when he converted a cross from new signing Joe Cole in the 53^rd minute. Thereafter it was smooth sailing for Roy Hodgson’s men as Blackburn lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.

Bolton extended their unbeaten league run to five games as they drew 1-1 with Wigan Athletic in the last round of fixtures. Swedish international Johan Elmander equalised for the Trotters after Colombian star Hugo Rodallega had put the Latics ahead.
