Manchester United began their 2009-10 EPL campaign on the right foot thanks in large part to the foot of striker Wayne Rooney. On the other side, Burnley did not begin their first ever English Premier League campaign the right way as they were overtaken by Stoke City by a score of 0-2.

Manchester United managed to squeak by Birmingham City by a score of 1-0 thanks to Wayne Rooney’s 99^th goal as a member of the team. While United did not overpower the opposition the way they expected to, they did get the job done in the end and should use that momentum to overtake an undermanned Burnley squad. Manchester United has all the talent to move towards the top of the EPL but it will take a solid effort from the entire team all season long.

Burnley fans were excited to see their team compete in English Premier League action but the season did not start out well for them. In their first game Stoke City showed that Burnley has a lot of room for improvement if they want to avoid relegation this year. They didn’t manage to get much done offensively as Stoke City controlled the play and swarmed their net. They will need a much better effort on Wednesday August 18^th if they hope to compete with Manchester United.
