Both Everton and Burnley have weekend fixtures to traverse before they meet on Monday, with Everton facing a trip to Sunderland and Burnley entertaining Bolton. As this article has been written before those games took place, the scores are obviously unknown. Up to that point though, both teams are showing dire form in their league games. Everton have gone six games without a win and only have one win in eleven league games, while Burnley haven’t won in seven league games and only have one win in ten league outings.

Prior to the weekend then, Everton played in-form Birmingham City at home. Despite playing really well, the Toffees only managed a 1-1 draw and as a consequence manager David Moyes has seen his team drop to fifteenth in the league table with eighteen points to their name. At Goodison Park this season Everton have played nine games. They have won two of those, drawn five and lost a further two.

Burnley went to fellow strugglers Wolves last time out and lost that vital game by two goals to nil. Owen Coyle knew that the game was of paramount importance in his team’s quest of staying in the Premier League this season, but defeat meant they dropped to fourteenth in the league table with just nineteen points, just two ahead of the relegation zone.
