The Hoops, comfortable winners of the Championship last season, were shown that life in the big league would not be as easy as Bolton hammered them 4-0 at Loftus Road. QPR’s defence was a vital part of their title winning campaign last season but it failed them on Saturday as Owen Coyle’s Trotters tore them apart. Matters were not helped by a red card to Clint Hill that reduced the home side to ten men.

While QPR go into this game bottom of the league, Everton had their fixture against Tottenham Hotspur cancelled due to the London riots. The Toffees will therefore begin the new season in front of their home fans this weekend when the Hoops come to Goodison Park.
