Fulham beat the Reds 1-0 on Tuesday to secure a rare victory at Anfield. The only goal of the game came as early as the fifth minute. Alexander Kacaniklic got a touch to John Arne Riise’s cross and the ball rebounded off Liverpool centre half Martin Skrtel’s chest and past his goalkeeper Doni.

With Liverpool having rested most of their stars with one eye on the FA Cup final, Fulham were not really threatened or put under the cosh as the Reds failed to make a real impact on the game.

A cool finish from Dane Nicklas Bendtner and a superb set piece effort from James McClean gave Sunderland a point against Bolton Wanderers in their last game, a fixture that ended 2-2.

After beating Liverpool on Tuesday, Fulham can now move above the Reds in the league standings by beating Sunderland when the two sides meet on Sunday in the Premiership.

Fulham will play Sunderland AFC at home in Craven Cottage for their seventeenth Premier League fixture of the 2010/11 season. Mark Hughes and Fulham need to put some points on the table very quickly or they will be in the drop zone going in to Christmas. Sunderland are in a better than would have been expected position in seventh but they will not be caught napping on Saturday. You can watch and see who deserves the win with live streaming football from oleolefootball.watchlive.net.

At the moment it looks as though Mark Hughes is managing a downhill mountain bike team the way Fulham are descending down the table but if you had to put your finger on one problem at the club you would find it easier said than done. As always when a club is performing poorly, the injuries stack up as players try and distance themselves from responsibility. With Carlos Salcido and Moussa Dembele injured they have little option but to wait for things to improve. News that Philippe Senderos is recovering well could not come sooner although they need help for Saturday against Sunderland rather than when the transfer window opens in January.

The pressure will not be on Sunderland to get the result after winning at home against West Ham. They are currently in seventh place with only goal difference keeping them below Bolton Wanderers. That should change soon though as the Black Cats have scored nine goals in five games as Gyan and Welbeck are continue to find the net on a regular basis. You can watch and see if they score with live streaming football action at oleolefootball.watchlive.net.

Fulham take on Wearsiders Sunderland at Craven Cottage this coming Sunday afternoon in a battle of two mid table teams. The current league positions of both sides will satisfy managers Roy Hodgson and Steve Bruce, although Sunderland have dropped a few places the last couple of weeks. Fulham go into Sunday’s clash having come from a 1-1 home draw with Bolton Wanderers last time out. The result means that Roy Hodgson’s side have now dropped to tenth in the league standings and have nineteen points to their name. In their seven league encounters at Craven Cottage so far this season Fulham have secured four wins, one draw and two defeats, scoring eleven goals while conceding six. Prior to playing on Sunday though, Fulham have to traverse a difficult Europa League tie against CSKA Sofia at Craven Cottage on Thursday evening.

For their part, Sunderland come into the game on Sunday afternoon on the back of a disappointing 1-0 away defeat to Wigan. The result is doubly disappointing for manager Steve Bruce for two reasons: first because Sunderland beat high flying Arsenal at home in the game before, and second, because Wigan themselves were crushed 9-1 away to Spurs in their previous game.

All in all then, Steve Bruce will be feeling rather miffed at the turn of events and it also means that his team have only won once in their last five league games (the win against Arsenal). They are still eighth, nevertheless, and have twenty points to their name.
