Hull have had a season of two halves. They were fantastic in the first half of the season and they were considered as contenders for a European spot. Unfortunately for Phil Brown and his side their second half of the season form has been awful and has seen them struggle. They will be hoping to clinch three vital points to put them clear of the relegation zone.
Hull will have defender Andy Dawson and midfielder Dean Marney back after serving suspensions against Fulham on Wednesday. Phil Brown also has a tough decision to make whether to select mercurial Brazilian Geovanni. The Brazilian has been in and out of the team since joining from Manchester City in the summer.
Newcastle have saw a season of turmoil with crowd favourite Kevin Keegan sacked as manager earlier in the season, the chairman trying to sell the club and failing. There has also been the small issue of some awful performances. Newcastle have saw a slight improvement after appointing Joe Kinnear as their new manager. Their performances have improved recently and they have players returning from injury. Kinnear is currently recuperating from a heart scar.
Alan Smith is one of the players who have recently returned to the first team squad. Joe Kinnear will not be overseeing this match; he has targeted a return to the dugout against Tottenham next month. The magpies are still missing long term injury victims Michael Owen, Joey Barton and Habib Beye.
