Premier League Live

Hull City has had a dismal run this season, winning only two of their total nine matches. Apart from their two wins, they haven’t been able to impress the crowds with their play. The team lacks in its ability to score off the few chances that they get. The attack line has been in a poor run and hasn’t been able to net the ball. They have not been able to counter attack as well. The defence line hasn’t been able to coordinate which left many openings for the opponents to cash in.

Portsmouth on the other hand is itself placed at the bottom of the points table. Poor is the only word that can describe their performance this season. They have been able to win just one of their nine matches till now. Their performance has been completely lacklustre as their attack line has not been able to score many and the defence has been sloppy. Their dismal run and lack of coordination is quite evident from the fact that their net goal difference is -10.

Hull face Portsmouth looking to stop an alarming slide which has saw them slip to just four points above the relegation zone. The Yorkshire side find themselves in 13th place in Premier League after a 1-0 defeat against Wigan last time out. The Tigers have won 8, drew 9 and lost 13 games from their 30 Premier league games so far. Their performances have improved in recent weeks and Phil Brown will be hopeful that his side can clinch a crucial victory against fellow strugglers Portsmouth.

Hull’s Michael Turner was linked with a call up to the England squad, but unfortunately for the defender Fabio Capello went with other options. The former Brentford star has impressed in the centre of Hull’s defence this season and will be hoping to continue his good form. Hull are without midfielders George Boateng and Jimmy Bullard who are both out injured with long term knee problems.

Portsmouth clinched a vital three points in their last match by beating Everton 2-1 at Fratton Park. Leighton Baines gave the Toffee’s the lead, but a Peter Crouch double won the game for Pompey. That win took Portsmouth up to 15th in the Premier League with 32 points, three points clear of the relegation zone. Their recent form has been good under interim manager Paul Hart only losing one of their last five games.

Winger Jermaine Pennant should return to the Portsmouth team, after missing the victory over Everton and top goal scorer Peter Crouch should be fit enough to play after picking up a calf injury on international duty with England. Reserve goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown will return to the substitute bench after recovering from an ankle injury.
