Hull City managed to jump out to a quick lead against Chelsea thanks to an early goal from James Hunt, but it did not turn out to be enough. Chelsea got two goals from Didier Drogba including one in the 90^th minute to shun Hull City to the side. Tottenham headed into their first game as underdogs against the highly touted team from Liverpool, but proved that they did not deserve to be overlooked. The team got strong play from new signing Basang and Benoit Assou-Ekotto in order to topple the stacked Liverpool side. They jumped out to a lead in the first half and then Basang scored the eventual winner after Steven Gerrard tied the game in the second half.
